The 300 m long ice track with its spectacular curves, waves, and jumps was opened in 2010.
Ice Cross Downhill is a mix of ice skating, boardercross, and downhill. In this competition, four runners race against each other, hurtling down the ice channel in ice hockey gear on skates. The obstacles and narrow sections of the track demand everything in terms of courage and technique from the athletes. This is pure tension and adrenaline! It's not about elegant ice dancing here; it's about rapid action, courage, strength, and stamina.
Ice Cross was invented in the year 2000 by Stefan Aufschnaiter, and under the name Red Bull Crashed Ice, it has since begun a victory march around the world. Ice Cross competitions have been held in Stockholm, Moscow, Helsinki, Prague, Lausanne, Munich, Minnesota, and Quebec, among others, and world championships have already been organized. Hundreds of thousands of spectators have followed these incredibly exciting races live on-site or on television and were thrilled.
The opening of the world's first permanent Ice Cross Downhill track in 2010 was a major sensation that was reported in the media around the globe. With the qualifying for the world championships at the Munich Olympic Stadium, a major international competition was also held, subjecting the track and organization to a rigorous quality test. Waidring passed this test with flying colors as expected, and thus we can also look forward to a great second season.
Waidring in the Pillerseetal valley boasts a new and globally unique attraction with this Ice Cross Downhill track. The top stars of Ice Cross naturally like to use this first permanent track for training purposes, but hobby athletes can also plunge into a new adventure here. The track is in operation all winter long from December, weather permitting, and can be used by all brave athletes with the appropriate equipment.
