In the Taufer Valley Ahrntal, for instance, runs the Path of Reflection of Saint Francis, which is lined by ten reflection points. Each place is characterized by three features: a certain artistic representation, a verse from the Bible, and the word of Saint Francis. Along the Francis Path, pilgrims also pass by the impressive Reinbach Falls, culminating in the Franz and Klara Chapel, which invites you to linger and reflect.
Pilgrimage routes in South Tyrol
Everyone knows the famous Camino de Santiago, which leads all the way to Santiago de Compostela. Parts of it also cross South Tyrol, with the route starting from the village of Winnebach to the Brenner and can be completed in six stages. In total, the pilgrims have to cover 3000 meters in altitude or 130 kilometers, with each stage telling its own unique story.
On the Way at the Caldaro Peace Trail
Between 1995 and 2000 the Caldaro Peace Trail was realized, leading from St. Anton to St. Peter in Altenburg. At various reflection points, the themes of "Measure, Prudence, Justice, Faith, and Hope" were artistically designed and implemented, inviting visitors to pause and reflect. The theme of Courage is represented by the Rastenbachklamm, while the theme of Love is embodied by the church ruins of St. Peter in Altenburg.
Pilgrimage on Historic Paths
Moments of contemplation and peace can also be found on the impressive Romedius Pilgrimage Path, which starts in Thaur and leads to San Romedio. Saint Romedius is the patron saint of hikers and pilgrims, and along the way, not only are national borders crossed, but there is also the opportunity to explore one's own limits. Saint Romedius is said to have given away all his possessions and then made a pilgrimage to Rome, although it is not recorded which path he took exactly.
