The Roman Bath

In Roppen, at the foot of the 2,370 m high Tschirgant, is the Roman Bath, a Kneipp facility newly built in the year 2000. The spring here, however, has been known for its healing powers since ancient times and is today scientifically classified as a calcium-magnesium-sulfate-hydrogen carbonate spring. This special composition is due to the mineral-rich rock of the Tschirgant. A constant temperature of 12 to 13° Celsius all year round is ideal for the optimal effect of Kneipp cures.

In the past, a simple, brick-built and only partially covered trough, the so-called "Badehäusl", stood here, which, however, also served the farmers as a cattle trough. The municipality of Roppen then had an open columned hall built, reminiscent of a Roman bathhouse, which now makes Kneipping a truly stylish pleasure. By the way, the Roman Bath is located directly on the Way of St. James and is therefore a welcome and extremely refreshing stay for passing pilgrims and hikers.

A beautiful Kneipp facility was also built in Tarrenz. Located directly on the Gurgltal cycle path – thus ideal for all athletes – is the radon-containing spring, whose water bubbles through several troughs and basins made of impregnated natural wood via a fountain system. A drinking water fountain is also available.

There is a legend about the spring, according to which children had received shiny stones from a female figure, which then led to the discovery of the ore deposits at Tschirgant. Over centuries, lead was mined here, and several tunnel names also recalled the nameless unknown to whom this wealth was owed.

The Frauenbrunnen has also always been used as a healing spring, numerous old and sometimes curious stories about "miracle cures" prove this. Meanwhile, the healing power of the water has also been scientifically proven, especially for skin diseases the effect is undisputed. Boards with descriptions provide guidance on the proper use of Kneipp cures. The entire facility can be used at any time and is completely free of charge.
