Travel Preparations South Tyrol - Before Departure - What do I pack in my suitcase?

At the beginning of every trip there is always the big question: What do I take with me and what spends my vacation at home in the closet?

Because the suitcase has a relatively strict regime regarding who can travel and who cannot, it requires structured consideration. We have summarized the most important packing tips for a vacation in South Tyrol for you.

Choose functional clothing

South Tyrol is located in sunny Italy with relatively mild continental climate. So in the summer, you should focus more on airy clothing. But also remember that the evenings can get a bit cooler, so pack a light sweater and a light jacket just in case.

Swimwear is also a good idea if you want to escape the temperatures that can exceed 30 degrees Celsius in the summer with a dip in the cool water. South Tyrol is rich in natural bathing lakes, but also has a variety of swimming pools and thermal baths.

Hiking is one of the most popular leisure activities for vacationers. If you also belong to this group, you should definitely pack well-worn, sturdy hiking shoes, shoulder a robust backpack, and fill it with a windbreaker, a sweater, and a rain jacket, which ideally can also be worn over the backpack. Weather changes can happen quickly in the alpine region, even in midsummer.

Also, consider the stronger sun exposure and pack headgear, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

At the very top of the list are disinfectants, band-aids, and bandaging material. The basic equipment can be further expanded with remedies for headaches, fevers, colds, diarrhea, and constipation. Also, a thermometer and tweezers are better off in the travel bag than at home in the drawer. If you also have packed ointment for wounds, medications for burns, sunburn, and insect bites, as well as painkillers, you are pretty well equipped for your stay in South Tyrol.

And a few more tips: Pay attention to waterproof, temperature-protected storage, check the expiration dates of the medications, and always carry their package inserts. After all, you can't remember all dosages and intolerances, and tablets rarely stand out due to particularly innovative appearance.

Entry requirements and necessary documents

Since the Schengen Agreement applies in Italy, EU citizens are only checked upon entry in exceptional cases. Nevertheless, you must always be able to identify yourself with a travel document such as a passport or ID card. Also, consider that hardly any hotel will carry out registration without a valid passport. The passport may be expired for up to 5 years.

Even a dog or cat needs a passport - the "EU pet passport," which is issued by the veterinarian.

And for those who like to travel with a well-filled wallet, beware: If the amount of cash carried exceeds 10,000 euros, it must be declared upon entry or exit when crossing the border into or out of the EU.
