Unfortunately, the endlessly refillable suitcase has not yet been invented.

But we are happy to give you tips on what you should definitely think about before a holiday in Tyrol. Suitable clothing, medications and bandages, as well as paperwork, are the big three of preparation, which we will discuss in the following paragraphs.

The weather god sets the tone for clothing

Tyrol is mostly located in a moderate climate zone. However, a combination of continental, Atlantic, and Mediterranean influences can cause regional differences. For example, the sunny side of the Alps offers a Mediterranean climate, while alpine mountain weather can prevail on the other mountains.

In spring, there can always be sudden cold snaps, and summers are relatively humid. On the other hand, dry autumns and snowy winters are to be expected.

Many visitors come to Tyrol to explore the many hiking trails. Solid footwear is a must. Give them a chance to adapt to your feet beforehand and break in the shoes well before your vacation. There are now also functional socks that prevent blistering and keep your feet pain-free for longer. Breathable shirts and a windproof jacket are just as much a part of good hiking equipment as a sweater for cooler periods. And a head covering. The latter is intended to protect you from the sun, which shines more intensely on the high mountain than in the lower regions. For this reason, a pair of sunglasses and a sunscreen specifically tailored to your skin type should always be in your backpack.

To be prepared for minor injuries, your travel pharmacy must be equipped with band-aids and bandaging material in various sizes as well as a disinfectant. Ointments for sunburn and insect bites should also be on the list, as well as wound ointments and pain relievers, a thermometer, and tweezers.

Similarly, headache powders and remedies for fever and colds should not be missing. Make sure you also have the right helper in your bag for typical travel illnesses such as diarrhea or constipation.

The storage bag should be waterproof and stored in a temperature-protected manner. Not to forget: always take a look at the expiration dates of the medications and include the package inserts! They provide information about the dosage and any incompatibilities with other medications.

Entry requirements and necessary documents

Third-country nationals need a valid passport when entering Austria, which must be valid for 3 months beyond the planned date of departure from the Schengen area. For EU citizens and visitors from EEA states, a valid identity card is sufficient. However, they are only checked in exceptional cases. By the way, the driver's license does not (!) serve as a travel document. Also, always keep in mind that in many hotels, registration is no longer possible without a valid passport.

If you want to bring a furry friend – dog, cat, ferret, or similar – with you, please also remember to pack the "EU pet passport". Your pet's passport can be issued by authorized veterinarians and is already mandatory for travel to EU countries.

Not to forget: always take a look at the expiration dates of the medications and include the package inserts! They provide information about the dosage and any incompatibilities with other medications.
