350 meters of altitude / 2h
The Kellerjoch in the Tux Alps exceeds the two-thousand-meter mark and is considered the local mountain of the city of Schwaz in the Lower Inn Valley.
The goal of this hike is the Kellerjochhütte. But before that, you go by car to Grafenast, where you can park your vehicle in the parking lot of the Kellerjochbahn. Parking is free for lift users. So switch to the chairlift, which takes you comfortably to the mountain station, from which you can already see the mountain house Hecher. As soon as you get off, the magnificent panorama of the Karwendel comes into your field of vision.
Now it's steeply up the mountain to the Arbeserkopf, and soon you can spot the targeted hut on the Kellerjoch from a distance. Now you hike over a flat mountain ridge, which has some smaller depressions. Follow the course along the signposts towards Naunz-Stand. From the Naunz-Stand, the ground turns into a short steep slope, followed by a flat short ridge passage, before it gets steeper again. The final piece runs over hairpin bends that run between rocks and stones. Finally, you have made it - the Kellerjochhütte at an altitude of 2,237 meters is reached.
Please note that the hut is not managed in winter. Nevertheless, you can make yourself comfortable on a bench in front of the hut and let the mountain panorama affect you. Best with a snack you brought yourself. The view includes the Rofan Mountains and the Karwendel Mountains and also extends over the Stubai Alps and the Zillertal Alps to the High Tauern.
The descent is via the ascent route. You can't go wrong there. And at the starting point, the mountain house Hecher is waiting with a hearty refreshment – bacon dumplings, roast pork, sausages, or even a hot hunter's tea – for you.
All in all, you should plan a little less than 2 hours for this moderate snowshoe hike (the steep sections require sure-footedness and good physical condition). 350 meters of altitude are covered.
Especially the large amount of natural panorama makes this tour a worthwhile venture.
