Old, tiny settlements with a church – these are the widely spread church villages in Austria. One of the smallest and highest situated in the Wildschönau is found in the charming Thierbach in the district of Kufstein.
Next to the parish church, there are just a few traditional farmhouses, a primitive inn, and a school building.
The start of the hike is at the central point of the village – the church. Hike from there along the road past the Sollererwirt to the Mooshof. At the latest by the farm, it's time to strap on snowshoes and head into the forest. Partly on a cleared path, and partly over natural trails, the route runs through the dense, wintry forest.
As soon as you have left the forest behind, you get a view from above of the idyllic little village. For the further path, hike past the farmhouses until you have returned to Thierbach.
The cozy tour takes about 1 hour and offers no great challenges, as no steep climbs need to be mastered. About 140 meters of altitude are also more than realistic for people who have never stood on snowshoes before, and for families with small children as an introduction to this sport.
After the hike, a visit to the Sollererwirt is of course recommended. The so-called Speckbacherstube inside the inn dates back to the time of the Tyrolean freedom fights at the beginning of the 19th century, and lets you sniff historical air along with a strengthening refreshment.
