Also known as "Ghost Gorge", today the focus is on the mythical attraction and presents visitors with information about mythical creatures as well as the fauna and flora and the geology of this area at various collection points.
But not only nature shaped Leutasch - the traditional customs of the population also know how to captivate many visitors. A typical component of the region are the houses with the "Lüftl paintings". This refers to a particular technique of facade painting that is widespread in Tyrol and Bavaria. In a fresco-like technique, peasant paintings, hunting scenes, or religious motifs with angels and saints are applied to the fresh lime plaster. It is not uncommon for elements of architecture - such as ornate window stucco - to be artistically imitated.
This picturesque image was also not hidden from Ganghofer. And so it is not surprising that greats such as Rainer-Maria Rilke, Richard Strauss, Leo Slezak, or Hugo von Hoffmannstal liked to stop by his hunting lodge again and again.
