Loden Museum in Vintl

The fascinating world of Loden. Loden is an ancient, versatile, and completely natural material. For centuries, it has been used for peasant clothing, both for workwear and for all other areas where warm, durable, water and dirt repellent clothing is needed.

In Vintl, the idyllic holiday destination at the entrance of the Puster Valley, is one of the most traditional loden cloth mills in South Tyrol. From here, from the holiday region of Gitschberg-Jochtal, the high-quality products are exported all over the world. Today, loden is no longer used only for classic traditional fashion, but has also become a highly appreciated material in cutting-edge designer fashion.

Out of conviction and love for the product and its great tradition, the Loden World was founded in Vintl a few years ago, a modern adventure world all about the theme of loden, which aims to vividly present the history and production of this fantastic material to a wide audience.

Visitors here can experience all the steps of loden production up close and "multisensorial". From sheep breeding to freshly shorn wool, which you can rummage through to your heart's content, and the various, sometimes complex, work processes up to the fulling, everything is impressively explained. With the help of modern concepts and museum technologies, a well-staged representation of the loden cloth mill is achieved.

The Loden World includes an interactive museum as well as an open-air enclosure with sheep and, of course, the loden manufactory with a generous sales area. A restaurant, the "Lodenwirt", is also part of the overall concept. All in all, the Loden World covers an area of around 3,000 m² and is thus an unforgettable experience for the whole family. Therefore, not only on rainy days is it worth visiting Vintl's unique Loden World!
