A ride on the Ritten Railway
The Ritten Railway, which leads from the center of Bolzano up to the Ritten, is well over 100 years old.

In August 1907, the railway was opened, which at that time overcame the nearly 1,000 meters of altitude with the help of a cogwheel drive and was supposed to lead the distinguished tourists into the refreshing mountain world in the style of the 'Belle Epoque'. Until 1966, this cogwheel railway was in operation, then it was replaced by a cable car. This in turn was no longer up to date after over 40 years, so that in 2009 the new Ritten cable car was finally opened, which now ensures rapid, comfortable and smooth transport.
At Ritten itself, however, the legendary narrow-gauge railway has been preserved to this day and operates regularly between Oberbozen and Klobenstein. The journey time is 16 minutes. From the founding period of 1907, two two-axle railcars and one four-axle railcar are still in operation. In addition, a second-hand railcar from the Esslingen tram and two sets from the Trogen Railway (from the Swiss Appenzell) are in use and relieve the historical railway.
