Five of the total of seven owl species that are recorded in South Tyrol live in the Nature Park Fanes-Sennes-Prags in the wild. Children know owls and earless owls mainly from fairy tales, whereas naturalists know that these animals also serve as indicators for the health of the ecosystem.
Owl Park San Vigilio
At the foot of the Nature Park, more precisely in St. Vigil, visitors have the opportunity to observe more than 30 different species of birds of prey from various countries. In the Owl Park San Vigilio they receive loving care and interested people can immerse themselves in the life of the animals and learn about their characteristics and habits. Another goal of the park is also to increase respect and awareness for the animals. Basically, in the Owl Park no animals are taken in that were born in the wild or lived there, except when they need medical assistance. In addition, the Owl Park also contains some very rare and special species that might otherwise be at risk of extinction.
