The Dolomites are also a paradise for climbers, who find ideal conditions in the rock of the "pale mountains." There are also plenty of routes for cyclists and mountain bikers of all difficulty levels. An extremely tempting challenge is, for example, the legendary Dolomite passes Grödner Joch and Sellajoch. Rafting, canyoning, bouldering, paragliding, tennis, and fitness are other activities for your summer vacation.
Also new is the Running Park Seiser Alm, which offers 20 running routes of all difficulty levels with a total length of 180km and professional support. Another attraction is the "Nordic Aktiv Park" in the Langental near Wolkenstein with wonderful routes for Nordic walking in summer and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter.
Winter holiday in Val Gardena
As a winter sports center, Val Gardena / Gröden has been a household name since the Alpine Ski World Championships in 1970. In the winter vacation, you have a huge ski area from Seceda to Sella to Seiser Alm at your disposal, and Gröden is also part of Dolomiti Superski. The fun on the slopes while skiing and snowboarding in the winter holidays truly knows no bounds here, with a fabulous 500km of interconnected slopes around the Sellastock alone.
The Sella Ronda is now also legendary, the 26km ski tour around the Sella. Cross-country skiers also have a wide range of activities here, 115 varied kilometers of cross-country ski trails leave nothing to be desired. In addition, there are several other winter sports from sledding to ice skating to ice climbing. And of course, Val Gardena / Gröden is a wonderful area for winter and snowshoe hiking and ski touring.
Val Gardena / Gröden is also rich in cultural attractions, such as the parish church of St. Christina with its baroque high altar or the Jakobskirche near St. Ulrich with beautiful late Gothic frescoes. At the foot of the Stevia wall lies the Wolkenstein Castle ruins, where the famous minnesinger Oswald von Wolkenstein once lived. Also worth seeing is the "Museum Gherdëina," which shows an extensive collection of Grödner wood carvings, archaeological finds, as well as fossils and minerals from the Dolomites. The museum also houses the estate of Luis Trenker.
