Cornedo / Karneid

The holiday resort of Cornedo / Karneid, called Cornedo in Italian, is located in the Rosengarten-Latemar region and offers relaxing holidays amidst an idyllic landscape far away from the tourist hustle and bustle. Wherever you look, you can enjoy the view of the beautiful Dolomite mountain ranges. Those who have had enough of the wet and cold weather will surely make the right choice for their vacation with the South Tyrolean village, as visitors are treated to a Mediterranean climate here. The region is particularly suitable for outdoor activities - in the hotel, you only have to stay if you want to take advantage of special wellness offers. Otherwise, mountain biking or extensive hiking tours are recommended in the summer. In the cold season, winter sports are of course on the program.

The landmark of Cornedo / Karneid

The municipality is particularly known for its impressive castle, which is located on a steep rock. From two sides, it looks as if there is no way up to the tourist highlight, which has been restored and altered since its construction in 1200. But of course, the historic building is not denied to the visitors of Cornedo / Karneid. The castle can be reached on foot - however, visits are only possible from April to October and as part of guided tours. The frescoes in the chapel dedicated to Saint Anne are particularly impressive.

Local history museum, public observatory and earth pyramids

But Karneid and its neighboring municipalities have other attractions to offer besides the castle: For example, the local museum is very popular, where you can learn all sorts of interesting facts about the history of the region.

Here it gets galactic: Adventurous tourists can get a little closer to the universe with a guided tour of the Max Valier Observatory in Gummer. However, the doors are only open on Thursday evenings.

The Steinegger Earth Pyramids are also worth a visit. These are erosions that were formed as a result of a landslide due to heavy rainfall.

One thing is clear: Visitors to Karneid will certainly not be bored during their stay. By the way, a day in Bozen is practically a must-see - because the regional capital is just around the corner.

For a comfortable accommodation during the vacation, there are various inns and hotels in the municipality that cater to every preference.
