Refounded in 1990 and reopened in the old post stables in 1995, the Stadtmuseum Bruneck has been in existence since 1912.

Located at the foot of the majestic Schlossberg, nestled between the picturesque Kapuzinerplatz and the lively old town, the Bruneck City Museum stands as a cultural oasis in the midst of the South Tyrolean mountain world. Since its founding in 1995 in the historic post stables of the city, where horses and carriages once found their place, the museum has developed into a dynamic center of art and culture. With its versatile program of permanent and changing exhibitions, it attracts art enthusiasts from near and far.

The museum, originally founded in 1912, experienced a break during the fascist era of 1939/1940, when it was dissolved and many of its treasures were moved to Bozen. But today, the Bruneck City Museum shines again in full splendor and is one of the cultural highlights of the Kronplatz region. It presents impressive permanent exhibitions, including outstanding works of local sacred art from the Gothic period. Visitors can enjoy the works of the late Gothic altarpiece by Simon and Veit von Taisten, as well as the creations of Michael Pacher and Friedrich Pacher, two protagonists of the late Gothic. In addition, the museum houses significant pieces by Paul Troger and the Master of Uttenheim.

Special attention is given to the seven changing exhibitions held annually, which highlight modern and contemporary art and provide an exciting contrast to the permanent collections. These exhibitions explore a variety of art forms, from graphics to painting and sculpture to photography, and offer insights into regional, national, and international art movements.

In addition, the Bruneck City Museum, located in close proximity to exquisite accommodations and the Messner Mountain Museum at Bruneck Castle, is a center for graphic arts. In addition to special graphic exhibitions, it also offers courses and workshops for children and adults to pass on the fascination for this art form.

Opening hours:

  • During exhibitions: Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Saturday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
  • In July and August, from the beginning of the summer exhibition: Wednesday to Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
