The architecturally remarkable building, which stands out with its glass facade and futuristic cube shape, sets a striking accent at Piero Siena Square, the gateway to the city center. Designed by the renowned Berlin architectural firm KSV, the Museion completed in 2008 harmonizes perfectly with the elegantly curved pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Talfer river. A nearby studio house offers artists a creative refuge during their stay and underscores the Museion's character as a vibrant art workshop.
Since its foundation in 1985 by a private association with the support of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the Museion has dedicated itself to promoting art development in historical Tyrol from 1900 onwards. The name "Museion" was established in 1991 and today stands for an institution that presents both international and regional artists in its generous, light-flooded exhibition hall. The exhibitions are characterized by their diversity, with a special focus on light-based works and the expressiveness of sculpture.
In addition to the changing exhibitions, a specialized reference library, a welcoming cafe, and a well-stocked museum shop enrich the cultural offerings. In the summer months, the facade of the Museion becomes a projection screen for video art, making the Museion a lively part of the urban space at night as well.
