The historic Thurn Castle in Deutschnofen, an impressive building with origins in the 13th century, opens its doors for the municipal administration and the noteworthy local museum. This former Romanesque residential tower, which has been carefully expanded over the years, played a significant role in regional history, as it served as a court site under the rule of the noble family of Niederthor around 1341.
After the building was incorporated into the Bolzano judicial district in 1849 and became the property of the Deutschnofen municipality in 1911, it underwent a comprehensive renovation in 1985. Today, the impressive residence houses the municipal administration and the Deutschnofen local museum, which invites its visitors to delve into the fascinating past of the region.
In the tower's upper floor of the museum, you will find an exquisite collection of religious art, including altar panels from the 16th century and early Baroque saint statues, complemented by consecration certificates and holy images that testify to the deep religious roots of the region.
Furthermore, the museum offers insights into the settlement history of Deutschnofen and the Eggental valley. Finds from the Mesolithic period prove that this area was already inhabited between 5000 and 5700 BC, and invite you to follow the traces of the early inhabitants.
The Deutschnofen local museum is easy to find: It is perched in the center of the village, not far from a parking lot behind Thurn Castle. Barrier-free access allows all interested parties to visit this cultural institution without complications.
