Hölltalschlucht

Hölltal? The name may initially be misleading, as it certainly does not take you into the devil's realm. Quite the contrary – a hiking trail leads you right into the silence, a peaceful place in nature, where only the occasional sound of trees, water, or animals can be heard.

Here in the Tyrolean Lechtal you will find a fascinating hiking trail that combines art and nature into a harmonious unity. The tour starts in the village of Bschlabs, where the pilgrimage church Maria Schnee with its onion dome welcomes pilgrims from all over the country and beyond. In front of the church, you will come across signposts that promise something enticing: "Path of the Senses" reads the signs - and that refers to the unique hiking trail that you can now explore.

Follow the signs that lead to a narrow path and eventually to the Streimbach. Soon, impressive artworks made of wood, stainless steel or stone created by local artists and reflecting a variety of styles will open up to you. Some bear sayings, others poems and verses. Thematically, they are mostly connected to the area or recall the questions of existence. They celebrate the miracle of humanity, water, home, wind - and encourage passers-by to pause and reflect.

A sound miracle of absolute silence

The Streimbach is crossed by an old suspension bridge and soon you will reach the already mentioned quiet spot - the "Place of Silence". The geographical location of this point swallows the sounds of the surroundings and only lets you hear what is directly nearby. Physics explains this rare acoustic zero point by the fact that several sound frequencies overlap and thus push each other away. An impressive natural spectacle that can rarely be found anywhere else. Enjoy this peace, let yourself decelerate and find your inner center. Once you have done that, you may also realize that your senses have sharpened. And already you have arrived at the end of the Path of the Senses with great knowledge. But the path continues a little further and finally gives you a breathtaking view into the 45 meter deep Hölltalschlucht, which partly has a width of only 40 centimeters. However, this visual experience is worth every step.

Discover the region's primordial nature via the high-altitude trail

From here, you can now continue to the village of Boden - a popular starting point for numerous forest excursions and home to the remarkable little Church of St. Joseph. Or you can take on the Bschlaber Höhenweg and return to Bschlabs on this route. The latter presents you with the untouched nature, into which humans have not excessively intervened. The rustic farms of the mountain farmers also speak the language of a long-gone past. It takes about 2 to 2.5 hours from Bschlabs to Boden, while the circular walk on the Bschlaber Höhenweg will take approximately 3.5 hours of your time. Vehicles can be parked at the hiker parking lot in Bschlabs. A bus also includes the small village on its schedule during the warmer months. Just get off at the Gasthof zur Gemütlichkeit.

The hike is classified as moderately difficult due to the inclines - which only serves self-discovery and emotional clarification. Families will find good terrain here - as long as they do not have a stroller with them, as the route is not necessarily suitable for them.
