Insider Tips for South Tyrol: The Puflatsch

The Puflatsch is probably the most original part of the Seiser Alm, which has a very special charm. Especially in June and July, the most diverse types of flowers thrive here, offering visitors a breathtaking view.

Unterinn am Ritten
Unterinn am Ritten

The Puflatsch is a plateau with several viewpoints, with the most spectacular one near the so-called Witches' Benches. From there, you can enjoy an unforgettable view of about ninety mountain peaks, including numerous three-thousanders.

In contrast to the Seiser Alm, which is usually very crowded, hikers can find peace and relaxation here and let the hidden mystical places affect them. For example, on the western edge of the Puflatsch, you can find the Witches' Ground, where witches are said to have danced in the past. At the edge of the cliff, benches emerge from the stone, and to this day, it is still a mystery how these Witches' Benches were created. Moreover, the place has a very strong and extraordinary energy, which feels slightly different on each bench.

Another Witch Mountain: The Tschafon

The Tschafon is also considered a witch mountain, where, according to legend, witches met with the devil at full moon, danced, played cards, and drank. Even today, the Tschafon is a very primal place where the power of the elements – for example, in the form of violent thunderstorms – is evident. But benevolent beings are also said to live here, such as a good old man who reminds the farmers to start their fieldwork in spring. The Tschafon can be reached from Weisslahnbad in Tiers, where the path leads through a dreamlike forest, meadow, or limestone landscape. If you wish, you can also visit the small church of St. Sebastian above Tiers, which was built in the midst of seclusion and is said to have been a pagan cult site in the past.
