Snowshoe Tour: To the Kreuzjöchl

in the snow with snowshoes
in the snow with snowshoes

9km / 4h
We are here in the Meran 2000 ski area, above the popular spa town of Merano.

The surroundings are part of the Ortler Skiarena and offer you many well-prepared kilometers of slopes for skiing and snowboarding fun. Passionate athletes' eyes will light up when they hear the name. But even away from the slopes, the area can convince a completely different target group: people who love movement and prefer a more leisurely and nature-oriented approach - the snowshoe hikers.

If you have packed your shoes, then drive by car to the valley station of the ski lift in Falzeben, where you can leave it in the paid parking lot.

At the end of the road, take the well-marked trail no. 51, which initially goes slightly downhill, leads over a bridge, and later becomes increasingly steeper. This takes you over a distance of about 2.5 kilometers, which takes about 1 hour, to the destination of the first stage - the Moschwaldalm (open from mid-May to November, depending on the weather).

Now follow the path further. It first leads you to the Maiser Alm (also closed in winter and open from mid-May to November) and finally to the Kreuzjöchl at almost 2,000 meters altitude. A summit cross and a bench indicate that you have made it. At the Kreuzjöchl, you now have a great chance of a friendly greeting from the sun and can enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains.

If you have soaked up enough sun and let your soul dangle over the alpine panorama for long enough, the return journey is via the same route.

This simple snowshoe hike is also very suitable for beginners, as it has virtually no difficult passages.

In total, you should plan about 4 hours of walking time for this approximately 9-kilometer hike.
