Tierwelt (Animal World) Rainguthof

The wooden buildings of a quaint mountain farm can be seen from afar when driving from the Gampen Pass towards Tisens and Gfrill. It almost seems as if the farmstead had planted itself right into the greenery to be surrounded by as much nature as possible.

However, it also houses as much nature as possible - and this is of animal origin. It was the lifelong dream of the founder, Alois Piazzi, to have his own mountain zoo. After the original zoo project of the Tisens region failed to materialize, it took a few years before Piazzi could open his, now privately run, small animal park - the "Tierwelt Rainguthof".

Mangalica pigs, miniature pigs, pot-bellied pigs, donkeys, dwarf goats, ponies, dwarf sheep, peacocks, ducks, geese, deer, mouflons, but also Australian emus, water turtles, and prairie dogs are part of the residents who have found a friendly home here on the estate.

The history of the animals is as diverse as the colorful group itself - some were bought, others were given as gifts, and still others were even saved from the slaughterhouse. Mr. Piazzi and his family take care of the well-being of their animal friends. And it is also evident that they are doing well here, as there are offspring throughout the year.

Visitors are also welcome here. Children, in particular, will not want to leave and would rather pet the animals - which is allowed here. Some animals can even move freely and are therefore even better able to be caressed. In the meantime, parents can enjoy a small snack on the sun terrace or enjoy the majestic panorama from the meadow behind the farm, which includes Bozen and the South Tyrolean mountain world with the Rosengarten group.

The small, fine animal world is open all year round. A voluntary donation is requested for admission, which of course the animals are very happy about. About two kilometers away, you will find the Gfrillerhof inn, whose patron carries a well-known name. Yes, the Piazzi family business also has a hand in this and thus creates delicious culinary creations between South Tyrolean originality and Mediterranean modernity. Homemade juices and pasta unfold the typical and good taste of the region with every bite and every sip.
