In Schwaz, there is a great emphasis on bringing the roots of Advent back to the forefront. Old customs, communal singing and crafting, candles and the scent of Christmas make Advent here a time of mystery and anticipation, of eager expectation and shining children's eyes. Tradition and modernity are not contradictory, but together they create a harmonious picture.
Advent in the Silver Region Karwendel
Until December 24, there is a colorful program of events daily at Pfundsplatz in the heart. The children's program is particularly extensive with crafting in the Christkindl workshop, Christmas carriage rides, pony rides, a nativity scene with real animals, and much more. In addition, there is a varied music program with choir and wind music from the region and music groups from different genres.
Pill – the smallest Christkindl market in Tyrol
Not far from Schwaz, in the little village of Pill with a population of 1000, you can find a very special Advent market: the smallest Christkindl market in Tyrol, and probably in all of Austria, has just four stalls, but all the more atmosphere. No hustle and bustle, but cheerful togetherness by candlelight, that's the Piller Advent. On the four Advent weekends, various handicrafts, cookies, jams or 'Doggeln', the traditional Zillertal felt shoes, are offered in the afternoons. Culinary delights are well catered for with Zillertal doughnuts, barley soup, mulled wine, punch, and mead. Not much larger and also very atmospheric is the small Advent market at the pilgrimage church on St. Georgenberg near Stans.
