The west of Tyrol

In the Tyrolean West section, we present the major tourism centers of Arlberg, Paznaun, Kaunertal, and Landeck in the west of Tyrol.

Arlberg and Stanzertal

In the border area with the western federal state of Vorarlberg lies the famous Arlberg region. On the Tyrolean side are the popular tourist resorts of St. Anton am Arlberg and St. Christoph am Arlberg. The Arlberg Pass leads up to 1,793m above sea level and, together with the Arlberg road and railway tunnels, it is one of the most important east-west connections in Austria. With a height of 2,808m, the Valluga dominates the unique mountain scenery.

Did you know that the Arlberg is the "cradle of alpine skiing"? The top ski area "Ski Arlberg" connects St. Anton and St. Christoph am Arlberg. The huge ski area is also known for its legendary World Cup races. With 280km of well-prepared ski slopes, most of which can also be snow-covered, and more than 85 ski lifts, the area makes every skier and snowboarder's heart beat faster. The Arlberg region is also known for its fantastic off-piste conditions - a dream for powder snow enthusiasts who can assess risks and dangers correctly. Due to its geographical location, the region receives substantial amounts of snow every winter. The snow cover at the mountain stations in winter is usually thicker than 2.50m(!)

The Stanzertal leads from St. Anton am Arlberg eastwards to Stanz, where it flows into the basin of Landeck. The charming villages of Schnann, Flirsch, Pettneu, and Strengen invite you to be active, recharge your batteries, relax, and unwind. There is no boredom with the varied leisure activities. The St. Anton am Arlberg holiday region is ideal for extensive hikes and mountain tours. Mountain sports enthusiasts will find numerous huts and impressive mountain peaks that meet even high demands. Of course, the area can also be explored by bicycle or mountain bike. Families prefer the new cycle path Stanzertal along the Rosanna under shady trees. The St. Anton climbing trail or the climbing garden of the Schanner Klamm offer the best conditions for unforgettable climbing experiences.

Paznaun

Starting in Pians (near Landeck), the valley extends 30km southwest to the Silvretta. From the originally mountain farming environment, it has become a hotspot for international tourism. In winter, especially in Ischgl with almost 11,000 guest beds, there is a lot of "action". The four ski areas of Ischgl, Kappl, See, and Galtür offer plenty of sports, fun, and action. Ischgl, the world-famous main town in Paznaun, nestled in a captivating mountain backdrop, is a mecca for snow acrobats. Over 40 state-of-the-art ski lifts and about 200 km of excellently groomed slopes turn the ski holiday in Ischgl into a highlight for snowboarders and carvers as well. The snow-sure location guarantees skiing enjoyment from November to May. Party animals get their money's worth at the après-ski in Ischgl.

Sports enthusiasts appreciate the Paznaun valley in summer for its varied hiking and climbing opportunities. A well-developed network of hiking trails, many mountain bike tours, adventurous high ropes courses, swimming pools, and opportunities for rafting are some of the many advantages in summer.

Kaunertal

At Prutz in the upper Inntal, the Kaunertal branches off south towards the Gepatschferner, one of the largest Austrian glaciers. The Kaunertal is protected as a nature park. The well-known and toll road Kaunertaler Gletscherstraße takes you through high alpine terrain past the large Gepatsch reservoir, until you finally reach the foothills of the Weißseeferner at 2,750m. Skiers and snowboarders find the best conditions at the glacier from October to June. The wide and uncrowded slopes leave plenty of room for big turns - ideal for carvers!

The diversity in the Kaunertal with its mountains and valleys, glaciers and mountain lakes, enchanting mountain villages, and lots of unspoiled nature attract numerous guests to the valley even in the summer months. Enjoy free glacier tours with a local mountain guide from July to September and marvel at the alpine natural landscape on one of the numerous hiking trails.

"Oberes Gericht"

From Landeck to the Swiss Engadin (Finstermünzpass), the upper Inntal is called "Oberes Gericht". In this area, gorges and narrow passages characterize the valley. A mountain road from Ried im Oberinntal leads to the well-known family ski region "Fiss - Ladis - Serfaus". Further southwest is the village of Pfunds, from where a branch leads to the Swiss Engadin. If you stay on the Reschenbundesstraße, you reach Nauders and, subsequently, the region around the famous Reschenpass on the border with South Tyrol.

Ski circus

On the sunny plateau of "Fiss - Ladis - Serfaus", beginners, families, and professionals have enough space to fully enjoy winter fun. Did you know that Serfaus, besides Vienna, is the only Austrian town with its own subway line? Thanks to the well-hidden subway, Serfaus is a car-free town - a convincing invitation. Nauders is part of the Reschenpass ski paradise in the tri-border area of Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. The three ski areas of Schöneben, Heideralm, and Nauders can be used with just one ski pass. Winter sports enthusiasts can let off steam between 1,400 and 2,850m in the snow-sure area from December to the end of April.

The region also offers many leisure activities in summer. A huge area for hiking and mountaineering, climbing walls and via ferratas, mountain bike tours, tennis courts, rafting tours, canyoning tours, paragliding, horseback riding and riding lessons, fishing, and many other experiences await you. Nauders has a lot to offer. Over 300km of marked hiking trails and 750km of cycling and mountain bike trails lead you to wild and romantic mountain lakes, bizarre rock formations, and picturesque alpine pastures in the Nauders region.

Kappl

The pointed church tower of the St. Antonius Church is visible from a distance, which was once built as a chapel and is said to be the namesake of Kappl. The village is located in the Tyrolean Paznaun between the Verwall Group and the Samnaun Group, and naturally offers the best conditions for a snowy holiday in winter.

See

See

The municipality of See in Tyrol actually owes its name to a lake that used to be found where one now stands on solid valley floor. A rockfall caused the lake to disappear and revealed an idyllic valley. See has always had close connections to the neighboring villages of Serfaus and Fiss. It was founded by farmers from both villages and is considered the first village at the beginning of the ...

Fiss

On a sun-drenched terrace above the Upper Inn Valley, you will find the enchanting village of Fiss. The traditional stone houses in the town center still remind us of the Rhaeto-Romanic past. And not without reason - because in the past, the Roman road "Via Claudia Augusta", which connected southern Germany with northern Italy, passed through the village.

Ladis

Ladis

At the foot of the Samnaun group, above the Upper Inn Valley, the idyllic Ladis is settled. Let yourself be transported back to the good old days by the centuries-old farmhouses with their facade paintings, the outdoor stairs, and the intricately carved gables. And also pay attention to the characteristic fountain. You won't find something like this everywhere.

In a high valley above the Inntal lies this municipality at an altitude of 1,300 meters, which is particularly well known to winter sports enthusiasts. More than 100 kilometers of ski slopes, 90 kilometers of cross-country ski trails, as well as winter hiking trails that exceed the 100-kilometer mark in total, and 70 kilometers of snowshoe hiking routes speak for themselves. And for Nauders.
