11km / 700 meters of altitude / 5h
Two peaks are climbed at once on this snowshoe hike through South Tyrol's impressive mountain landscape. Taisten in the Puster Valley marks the beginning of this tour.
Drive past the parish church and take the mountain road towards Hotel Alpenhof until you reach the Mudlerhof mountain inn. A few meters further on, a large parking lot awaits you, where you can park your car.
The walk now begins on forest road No. 31, which already indicates the direction with signposts – and it is now called "Lutterkopf”. Behind it lies a mountain peak over 2,100 meters high.
Soon the path turns to the left and leads from the once wide forest road onto a narrower forest trail, which becomes increasingly steep and at the end rewards you with the unique view from the Lutterkopf with its wooden summit cross. This section should be manageable in 1.5 hours.
The next destination on our list is the Durakopf. It is still number 31 that shows us the right way. Open terrain and some forest areas alternate. Just keep walking along the ridge and enjoy the varied play of nature.
Soon you will come across a junction that will show you the way to the seasonally managed Taistner Vorderalm. However, resist the temptation of a relaxing stop for a little while longer and take the other path that leads to the top of Durakopf (2,275 meters). It is again a steep piece, but at least when you let your gaze wander to the Dolomites after about 20 minutes a little out of breath but satisfied, you will see that the effort was worth it.
From the summit, the descent finally takes place in an easterly direction to the Klenkboden. Keep to the south on trail 38 and you will finally reach the Taistner Vorderalm, where a well-deserved rest awaits.
From the hut, a toboggan run leads towards Mudlerhof, which will finally bring you back to the starting point of this tour.
The 11-kilometer route can be done in about 5 hours. Approximately 700 meters of altitude difference are covered. The steeper ascent points make the tour moderately difficult at times. However, those who have good physical condition will enjoy this very scenic hike.
