The landmark of Sterzing is the so-called Zwölferturm, which also separates the new town from the old town. The tower was built between 1468 and 1472 and is 46 meters high. The roof was damaged by a fire in the 19th century and was subsequently rebuilt with two layers. Also, pay a visit to the town hall, which still testifies to the wealth of modern times. Especially worth seeing are the courtyard and the council chamber, which is still preserved in its original state. Culture enthusiasts are drawn to the Multscher and City Museum, where the former altar panels of the painter Hans Multscher can be found. In addition, the premises of the Teutonic Knights can be visited as well as the Elisabeth Church, which can be accessed directly through the museum. A visit to the Holy Spirit Church, which is one of the best-preserved Gothic churches in South Tyrol, is also highly recommended. Here you can admire the extraordinary fresco cycle created by Hans von Bruneck and his brothers. A very well-known address was also the Krone Inn, where among others Andreas Hofer and Heinrich Heine resided, today the inn is a small shopping paradise.

The Old Town Alley was originally characterized by various craftsmen and workshops, but now numerous shops invite you to stroll and shop. In addition to traditional costume fashion and trendy clothing, visitors can also buy shoes, delicatessen, or household goods. In between, you take a break in one of the many pubs and let yourself be spoiled with culinary delights. Shopping in Sterzing is a very special experience, as the small shops are lovingly decorated and the colorful facades also contribute to an extraordinary shopping day.
