The Castelrotto Peasant Wedding is re-enacted every odd year in mid-January. In the past, weddings were mostly celebrated in the cold season because the rest of the year was spent working in the fields or on the farm. In addition to various culinary delicacies, visitors can also look forward to a festive parade in which numerous decorated horse-drawn sleighs with the bridal couple or the wedding party drive from St. Valentin to Castelrotto, where they then present themselves to the spectators.
Historical garments
Both the bridal couple and the so-called "Marenner" or the groom's guide wear historical costumes that come from private ownership. From the village square, it then continues to the "Hoazetkuchl", the wedding feast, which is taken at an inn in Castelrotto. But visitors can also taste various dishes in the local establishments, which originate from the 20th century and are presented in a new guise. These include dishes such as the farmer's hash, the famous "wedding pan", poppy seed pastries or grey cheese.
