Winter vacation in South Tyrol: New ski rules for this season

Anyone who has planned a skiing holiday in South Tyrol for the winter season 2023/24 should definitely be aware of the skiing rules.

Ski rules on the slopes

This winter, new regulations apply in South Tyrol for all skiers, especially concerning bottlenecks and overtaking. Accordingly, skiers must ensure before overtaking that there is sufficient visibility and space, and they must also maintain the correct distance when overtaking so as not to hinder the overtaken. In addition, there is another regulation concerning crossings to prevent accidents. Thus, skiers must first check whether another 'is coming from another ski slope,' even if they are approaching from above.

No stopping allowed

There is also a strict prohibition that says you must not stop at blind spots, bottlenecks, or crests. Anyone who does not comply with these rules can expect to pay a fine of between 100 and 150 euros. In addition, in this case, the ski pass must also be surrendered.

No official blood alcohol limit

Friends of après-ski should also be careful, as it is strictly forbidden in South Tyrol to ski after consuming alcohol. Legally, this means you have to walk down to the valley if alcoholic beverages have been consumed at a hut, otherwise, fines ranging from 250 to 1000 euros can be expected. The law does not specify an official blood alcohol limit, meaning you could be charged after consuming just one beer.

Attention ski tourers!

Another no-go is entering ski slopes with snowshoes or on foot unless there is actually an urgent reason for it. Ski tourers should also inform themselves in advance whether the mountain may be climbed, as climbing up the slope with skis is normally prohibited. Violators can expect a fine of up to 150 euros.
