Why cross-country skiing?

Cross-country skiing is a holistic sport, balanced like hardly any other sport. Cross-country skiing uses 90% of the muscles and strengthens balance, coordination, and flexibility. It particularly supports the cardiovascular system and condition, actively preventing cardiovascular diseases. With all this, there is hardly any risk of injury and there is no damaging stress on tendons and joints. In our opinion, the health-promoting aspects of cross-country skiing far outweigh everything else.

Holistic and healthy

Cross-country skiing is also a stress-free and relaxing alternative away from the often dominant hustle and bustle of alpine skiing. All this in the fantastically beautiful winter landscape of South Tyrol, against the impressive backdrop of the snow-covered Dolomites, the three-thousanders of the main Alpine ridge, or the mighty Ortler massif. What could be more delightful than gliding over the snow-covered slopes of South Tyrol under the radiant winter sun?

Whether classic or skating, whether beginner, recreational athlete, or professional - in South Tyrol, everyone can find the ideal trail. Professionally equipped with modern stadium facilities, the cross-country skiing and biathlon centers in Toblach, Antholz, and the Martell Valley are true jewels of cross-country skiing. Fantastic trails can also be found at the Reschen Pass, on the Seiser Alm, and in the Puster Valley. For those who prefer it even more idyllic, Ridnaun or the Sarntal are perfect. It is also peaceful and quiet in the Gsiesertal; here you can often ski undisturbed.

Our tip

Take advantage of the fantastic cross-country skiing offer of the Dolomiti Nordic Ski cross-country skiing association. This unique cross-country skiing paradise offers a total of an incredible 1300 kilometers of trails in the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites, crossing borders all the way to East Tyrol - all with a single trail pass.
