Romantic Places in South Tyrol

Panoramic views of the fantastic mountain world, cozy places in meadows or forests, unforgettable moments by the glittering water… In South Tyrol, a romantic atmosphere arises in many places and they are perfect for enjoying fairytale moments with your loved one.

Merano
Merano

One of these romantic places is the Fennberger See, which can be found on the Fenner plateau. Since 1977, the body of water has also been under nature protection, you relax under shady trees or can also dare to jump into the refreshing water.

The legendary Karersee, also often referred to as the "fairytale lake of the Dolomites" or "Rainbow Lake", enchants due to its emerald green color and can be explored as part of a circular hike. According to legend, a water nymph once lived here. The sorcerer of Masaré fell in love with her and a witch advised him to disguise himself as a jeweler and strike a rainbow from the Rosengarten to the Latemar to win the favor of the water nymph. However, he forgot his disguise and was discovered by the nymph, who then disappeared in the lake. In anger, the sorcerer threw the jewels and pieces of the rainbow into the lake, so that it still shines in rainbow colors today.

Dürrenstein Viewpoint Mountain

The Dürrenstein is one of the most popular viewpoint mountains in the Dolomites and those who take on the roughly two-hour climb are rewarded with a spectacular panorama. Of course, a hike in the early morning is particularly recommended to enjoy the wonderful sunrise.

Gilfpromenade in Merano

The name Gilfpromenade is due to the Gilfklamm, which runs between Obermais and the Zenoberg. Here, subtropical plants grow and you are rewarded with a great view of the center of Merano. At the end of the promenade lies the Powder Tower, from which you can then also take a walk on the Tappeinerweg.

St. Kathrein Church near Hafling

On a small hill near Hafling lies the legendary St. Kathrein Church, which was already a place of power in prehistoric times. The church is reached via a hiking trail from Hafling, up there you then get an unforgettable view of the Texel group or Merano.
