It has been more than 20 years since the Bird of Prey Park in Telfes started to take in injured and sick animals to nurse them back to health. The caretakers fundamentally aim to release the animals back into the wild after careful treatment. However, it can occasionally happen that an injury does not fully heal. In this case, the animal finds a new home in the park. That the creatures are doing well here can also be seen in the offspring, which are regularly born in Telfes, thus supporting the conservation of the species.
Apart from a Bald Eagle, which normally soars through the skies of the USA and Canada, the Bird of Prey Park in Telfes houses animals from the region – that is, those that are widespread in Europe: eagles, owls, falcons, buzzards, and kites.
From mid-May to mid-October – after the birds have recovered from the mating and nesting season – a spectacle begins that always knows how to thrill both young and old – the daily flying demonstrations, where the kings of the skies show how to truly glide majestically over the land. Here, you can observe the birds from up close. With a bit of luck, you can also stroke one of the eagle owls.
The flying show is accompanied by exciting stories about the habitat, the characters, and the habits of the feathered creatures. Ultimately, the visitor should leave with an increased awareness of the ecological problems facing animals that are becoming increasingly rare in the wild.
Directions, opening hours, and admission prices (which finance the park) can be found on the website of the Bird of Prey Park.
