Hiking on Vacation: Tyrolean Castle Trail

The holiday region TirolWest has gained another attraction: the Tyrolean Castle Trail. This trail leads in several stages through the villages of Schönwies, Pians, Stanz, Grins, Tobadill, Fließ, Zams, and Landeck, thereby also involving the tourism associations of Imst and Paznaun.

Through the Tyrolean Castles Trail, the touristic gems of the valley basin are now connected into a circular route, so that the region's main themes – mountain, nature, healing water, enjoyment, and culture – are even more closely interrelated. The hiking trail represents a long-distance hiking trail that is more than 50 kilometers long. Thus, it appeals not only to day visitors but also to long-distance hikers. The cornerstones of the new castles trail are the five castles that can be found in the region: Kronburg, the ruins of Schrofenstein, Wiesberg Castle, Biedenegg Castle, and Landeck Castle.

The Tyrolean Castles Trail with its sights and castles has been digitally processed in an app, there are no display or panorama boards, as they want to counteract the "signage flood". In addition, various texts were also recorded by the well-known dubbing actor Ludwig Dornauer.

Here is an overview of the individual castles that can be visited on the new hiking trail:

Kronburg: Kronburg was built on a steep rock between Schönwies and Zams and was restored in 1985 by an action of the association "Save Kronburg". Below the castle, there is also an inn, a pilgrimage church, and the Kronburg monastery.

Ruine Schrofenstein: Perched on a rock ledge above Perjen, the ruins of Schrofenstein once monitored the traffic routes over the Arlberg, the Fern Pass, and to South Tyrol.

Wiesberg Castle: Wiesberg Castle probably dates back to the 13th century and is currently privately owned, so it is not accessible to the public.

Biedenegg Castle: Biedenegg Castle is located in the village of Fließ and also offers accommodation for its visitors.

Landeck Castle: At Landeck Castle, you have the opportunity to visit the castle gallery or the local history museum, and various events also take place here.
