South Tyrol in Winter: Vacation Tips for Snowshoe Hikers

Immerse yourself in the white winter landscape. Enjoy the silence and move in nature. Snowshoe hiking allows you to get to know South Tyrol from a very contemplative side, with routes available for all levels of difficulty.

Absorb the untouched landscape, watch squirrels and deer, and at the same time do something good for your body – all this is possible while snowshoeing in South Tyrol. One of the most beautiful tours takes hikers to the Geisleralm, for example, from where you can enjoy the fantastic panorama of the Geislerspitze. Especially recommended is the route via the Glatschalm, where great photo opportunities are offered by the wide alpine meadows.

Another noteworthy peak in the Pfunderer mountains is the Terner Jöchl, where you can also stop at the cozy Pertinger Alm. Here you can also rent a sled and then toboggan down into the valley. Another highlight is a snowshoe tour to the Bonner Hut or even further to the Toblacher Pfannhorn. The Bonner Hut is already captivating due to its location, as from here hikers are rewarded with wonderful views of the Dolomites.

Ascent to the Lyfialm

If you want to hike to the Lyfialm with snowshoes, leave your car at the parking lot at the end of the Martell Valley and follow trail No. 8. Then the Pedertalbach must be crossed before continuing on trail No. 39, which leads hikers to the Peder-Stieralm. This is followed by a steep climb to the highest point of the circular hike, which is at 2250 meters. Finally, path No. 35 leads to the Lyfialm, where there is also a place to stop for refreshments and from where you can enjoy the view of the Ortler group.

Pure enjoyment – Tour to the Möltner Kaser

Another option for avid snowshoe hikers is a tour to the Möltner Kaser. To do this, start from the hiking parking lot Schermoos, which is located between Flaas and Mölten. Cross-country, head towards Möltner Joch, using the markers 5 or 17 A as reference points. The Möltner Joch is also at an altitude of 1734 meters, an area where you can trudge wonderfully through the fresh powder snow. Finally, follow the marker 15 to the Möltner Kaser (1776 m), where you can enjoy the sun on the benches in front of the hut. Since the hut is not serviced during the winter months, it is advisable to bring your own drinks and snacks. If you still feel like it, you can hike from here to the 'Stoanernen Mandln' and then return to the starting point via the same path.
