The South Tyrolean Culture and way of life are best discovered over a glass of wine. The cozy get-together with a good bottle of wine is simply part of the South Tyrolean lifestyle. The tradition of wine culture goes back a long way here, as South Tyrol is the oldest wine-growing region in the German-speaking area. Wine has been cultivated and pressed here since before Roman times, the climatic conditions with around 300 days of sunshine per year are practically optimal. Different geological soil conditions allow a variety of vines to thrive in a small area. Some indigenous varieties, such as Vernatsch, Lagrein, or Gewürztraminer, even originated here in South Tyrol. They were already widely known in the Middle Ages and have significantly contributed to making South Tyrolean wine famous and sought after all over the world today.

Overall, 20 grape varieties grow in South Tyrol - a truly unique diversity, considering that South Tyrol is one of the smallest wine-growing regions in Italy. However, the local wines are regularly awarded the highest prizes internationally every year. This speaks to the skill of the winemakers and cellar masters. Based on the ratio of cultivation area to awards, South Tyrol is even the most successful wine-growing region in Italy by far.

Of course, today, science and modern technologies have long been in charge of wine production. Contemporary vinification techniques have replaced old methods, and hygienic steel tanks have replaced "classic" wooden barrels. But when it comes to enjoying the noble drops, the purely sensual experience is still crucial. In the end, the only thing that matters is whether the wine tastes good.

The Culturonda wine guide invites you on an exciting journey of discovery into the rich cultural history of South Tyrolean wine. The South Tyrolean wine is illuminated from twelve different perspectives. Topics include the wine and its history, legends about wine, wine and the landscape, the terroir, wine and the South Tyrolean monasteries, wine and architecture, wine and art, and of course, culinary delights should not be missing. For each topic, the wine guide recommends three experience points and also provides a wealth of event tips and information.

The brochure is in a practical pocket format and is therefore ideal for use on the go. An integrated folding map provides an overview and allows for individual planning of excursions and routes to the various experience points.
