An easy circular tour for families that combines nature, culture, spirituality, and mysticism and does not take up much time. Unless you want to not just rush past the numerous sights, but also visit them - then, before you know it, it can turn into a bigger excursion. But there are worse things, right?
The mostly flat cycle path winds through a sunny valley and offers alternating asphalt and gravel paths. The excursion begins at the tourist office in Landeck - by the way, a good opportunity to get some information about the sights of the region. Via Maisengasse, it goes to Öd, which is located outside the city center.
The next major point on the map is Zams, where you will be taken to a mystical water realm. Through an enchanted gorge, you will reach the "Zammer Lochputz". The water experience trail leads over bridges, tunnels, and paths into a mysterious natural area - past an old, dilapidated forge. And at the end awaits a 30-meter high waterfall, fed by the Lötzbach. Depending on the season, 1,000 to 2,000 liters of water per second thunder into the depths here. Over centuries, the water has carved mystical figures out of the rock. So a bull's head thrones above the cascades, and elsewhere the head of a water nymph protrudes from the rock. In the Lötzturm, an old defensive tower from the time of the Appenzell Wars, there is also a multimedia exhibition on the history of the Zammer Lochputz. To see how the water here also serves electricity generation, you can visit the first demonstration power plant in Tyrol and one of the oldest hydroelectric power plants in the country at the entrance to the gorge.
After the Zammer Lochputz, it continues on quiet roads to Burschlbrücke. After crossing the bridge, a slightly steep ascent awaits you, which will take you to the district of Perfuchs. From there, you will reach the historical Gerberbrücke, which was the scene of the battles against the invading Bavarians and French during the War of the Spanish Succession and where the decisive defeat of the Bavarians was eventually initiated. The path then leads back to the starting point in Landeck.
The Guardian of the City of Landeck
Directly on the Roman cycle path, the Via Claudia Augusta, awaits you the Landeck Castle, which was built in the first half of the 13th century as a judicial and administrative seat. Later it served as a hospital, barracks, and workers' quarters. Today it is considered a cultural attraction and, in the permanent exhibition "Stay or Go," provides information about life at home and abroad, as well as the varied history of the Tyrolean Oberland. In addition to a gallery of contemporary art, it is above all the playing card collection that enchants numerous visitors, as it consists of the oldest playing cards in the German-speaking area. Children also do not miss out in the castle - they can embark on an adventurous treasure hunt that runs through the entire building and may awaken one or two castle spirits.
Coming down in the lap of nature
Northeast of Landeck Castle, above the towns of Landeck and Zams, is the Tramser Weiher. A crossroads in front of the castle leads to a steep stretch to the natural bathing lake with a sunbathing area and an adventure playground for the children. Numerous interesting animals frolic in and around the lake - in addition to tench, carp, pike, and perch, there are also small crayfish and dragonflies. What better place to lie in the green grass and watch the clouds drift by after a sweaty bike ride?
