Hintersteiner Lake

In the nature reserve Wilder Kaiser, this idyllic Alpine lake is located at an altitude of just over 880 meters. Most people come here to enhance their collected hiking experiences with another beautiful memory.

The four-kilometer loop around the lake can be completed in about 1.5 hours and is relatively flat. At least there are no particularly high inclines to plan for, which makes the path especially interesting for families with children. Only strollers do not always find the best conditions here.

Of course, it is obvious to swim laps in the lake as well. This is certainly possible – provided you have polar bear genes or the courage that defies any minimum temperature. Here, the mercury normally moves between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius in the summer months – but after all, it is supposed to be refreshing. In addition, the crystal-clear water is of the highest purity – much to the delight of divers, who can see up to 10 meters on their underwater excursions and dive down to 35 meters at the deepest point. Underground springs ensure a constant supply of fresh water with mountainous temperatures.

The beach bath with sunbathing lawn

A paid beach bath provides you with the best entry into the water. It also features a sunbathing lawn with deck chairs and parasols. And when hunger calls after all the splashing around, it can be easily remedied – numerous snack stations around the lake offer you delicious, fresh snacks from the region. In the immediate vicinity of the lake, meadows and forests proudly carry the splendor of the regional nature. In the shadow of mighty mountains, numerous herb species and other representatives of the alpine flora rise into the sky.

Parking options and the lake bus

Parking spaces for cars are available but are subject to fees. As an alternative, you can take the lake bus in the summer. This bus travels from Scheffau directly to the lake and operates several times a day.
