Schwarzsee (Black Lake)

The enchanting moor lake in the middle of the Kitzbühel Alps is a popular place in the summer months for those who do not immediately think of an extreme drop in temperature when they think of a refreshing cool down.

At 27 degrees Celsius water temperature, you almost feel like you're in a cozy bathtub - if there wasn't one crucial difference: Who has a bathtub in the middle of green meadows and forests, surrounded by snow-capped mountains? And that at an altitude of more than 760 meters?

The impressive panorama with the majestic Kaisergebirge in the background makes every mountaineer's heart skip a beat, and parts of the shore that have been declared a nature reserve showcase their full beauty. The beach offers plenty of space on its spacious sunbathing lawn, from which you can let your gaze wander over the alpine rock formations. During a hot beach volleyball or table tennis match, you can also train your sportsmanship outside the water, and in the immediate vicinity of the lake, there is also a golf course and a mini golf course waiting for active visitors. And because Kitzbühel is known for quite a few major sports events, it is not surprising that Schwarzsee also has a sporting past, as triathlon competitions have already been held here.

By boat through the realm of fish

A private boat rental allows you to leisurely circle the lake by rowboat, pedal boat, or electric boat. If you look closely, you may be able to spot one or the other resident from the depths - the Schwarzsee offers a magnificent home to some fish species such as carp, eel, pikeperch, tench, and pike. Fishermen can obtain a day license from the Kitzbühel city police and then cast their fishing line with a clear conscience. However, divers should consider that it is a moor lake. Due to the moor substrate and numerous suspended algae, despite good water quality and a maximum depth of up to 7 meters, you don't see much.

The natural moor pack

Those who have already made acquaintance with the moor bath during a spa stay know about the healing effect of such a body of water on the human body. This natural remedy can have positive effects on the immune system and metabolism. Additionally, a good reason to choose a day at Schwarzsee. For those for whom a day at the lake is not enough, there is an idyllically located campsite available, which can score points with good infrastructure. From gas connection to clothes washing machines to its own indoor pool and wellness area - this place offers all that and a little more. In addition, some hotels and guest rooms also open their doors to those seeking relaxation in the immediate vicinity. The lake, which is located 2 kilometers west of Innsbruck, is quite easy to reach via the Brixental road. Those arriving by train disembark at the lake's own stop on the Salzburg-Tyrol railway and are already in the middle of this natural gem.
