On an extraordinary 10 kilometers of track, you can enjoy the acceleration and the crunching snow for an especially long time.
Although it is not possible to climb on foot, fortunately, the comfortable Rosskopf cable car takes the journey for you and requires less than ten minutes. Right at the mountain station of the cable car, the tobogganing adventure for the whole family begins. Because the gradient is not too steep and the path is pleasantly wide, the route is also suitable for children. With many turns and well secured, you go down through the natural landscape to the valley station in Sterzing.
On the Sterzing sun terrace, you are offered a breathtaking panorama with views up to the Dolomites. Here you will find some huts and inns and they not only offer you delicacies of the local cuisine, but also rooms to stay overnight. The view alone indicates that people think big here – after all, you cover an altitude difference of 910 meters before you arrive back in the valley.
In tests by the German automobile club ADAC, the Rosskopf toboggan run is found in the top field. In November 2011, it was even able to claim the title of test winner.
In principle, the operation runs from the end of November to the end of March. You can check whether the track is currently open at www.rosskopf-ladurns.it/de/rosskopf-ladurns/winter/rodeln.html.
For moon and star worshipers, the region has come up with something very special – tobogganing in the romantically pale light of the night sky. Every Tuesday and Friday evening, the gondolas of the cable car turn until 10:00 PM and the track is bathed in floodlight until midnight.
If you do not want to strap a toboggan to your car, you can also rent the toboggans at the valley station in Sterzing.
