From the valley station of the Speikboden lift (there is a parking lot here) to the mountain station, motivated hikers who are on foot need about three hours. Of course, there is also a more comfortable way - the modern cable car, which only takes a few minutes.
Once at the top, you will immediately find restaurants with sun terraces that can boast both traditional regional cuisine and Italian specialties. In addition, there are also some small après-ski bars that will heat you up with music and drinks. By the way, here at the mountain station, you also have the opportunity to rent a sled, which you can return to the Sportalm in Luttach after the ride down to the valley.
The well-prepared route to Luttach is relatively easy from a technical standpoint and is generally classified as moderate. In the winter season 2014/2015, the lift was widened and at the same time, some tricky sections were defused. Thus, the Speikboden shows its family-friendliness - with a considerable altitude difference of 950 meters. Nevertheless, smaller children should be accompanied by their parents, because the final section is still somewhat challenging.
A second toboggan run starts from the same starting point, but after a few kilometers it takes the route towards Weißenbach. Here you can enjoy 8.5 kilometers of sledding fun with a height difference of 700 meters.
Regardless of how you decide, both routes are connected to the valley station by bus, with the bus ride already included in the single-ride ticket. The snow reliability of both slopes is always guaranteed by comprehensive snowmaking facilities.
For a special experience and an extra shot of romance, you can stay in an igloo on the Speikboden. Not far from the mountain station, at almost 2,000 meters altitude, you will find not only a fabulous view of the three-thousand-meter peaks of the Zillertal Alps, but also a small collection of small houses made of pure ice and snow. After sauna and bath, continue with a romantic evening menu and a drink by the open fire, before the "ice cave" experience continues into the night with down sleeping bags, hot water bottles, and fur blankets. You will be surprised how comfortable it is to spend the night in an igloo. And the next day, after a wonderful panoramic breakfast, you can swing onto the sled and ride down into the valley, newly in love.
