Partschins Waterfall

The Partschinser Waterfall is one of the highest and most famous waterfalls in South Tyrol, with the masses of water from the Zielbach plunging impressively over an almost 100 m high rock face into the depths.

Ascent: Starting from Partschins on an asphalt road to the inn 'Birkenwald', from there following a well-signposted footpath to a lookout platform in close proximity to the waterfall.
Hiking time: approx. 1.5 hours.

The Partschins waterfall, with a total height of 97 meters, is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Alps. This extraordinary natural spectacle is visible from afar, especially during the snowmelt when about 10,000 liters of water per second shoot over the rock edge.

In order to also visit the small waterfalls behind it, in 2017 the Partschins Tourism Association, the municipality, and the Meran Forestry Administration conducted a first site inspection. Behind the largest waterfall in South Tyrol, emerald green pools and numerous smaller waterfalls were revealed, presenting an unforgettable sight. For this reason, it was decided to make these natural beauties accessible to guests and locals. Consequently, the Forestry Administration planned the Alpine Trail Waterfall, which was implemented successively over three years. In painstaking manual labor, the path workers laid out the path, so that one can complete the total 400 meters of altitude in pleasantly winding turns. Of course, one should not be afraid of heights and should have a certain sure-footedness to be able to fully enjoy the view into the valley.

Highlights of the Alpine Trail

The blue-green pools, various viewpoints, and cozy seating areas are the special highlights of the trail, but also the house-high boulders at the end of the path should not be overlooked. With a lot of sensitivity, the path workers of the Forestry Administration built the path, which should definitely be noted for a hike.
