The toboggan runs in winter sports resorts now offer much more than a short slide over a hill. Skill and experience are often just as much in demand as appropriate equipment. The tracks, on which one often zooms along at quite a high speed, must of course also meet certain safety standards, and these were examined particularly closely by the ADAC.
Safety and accident prevention were the main criteria in the test, accounting for 70% of the overall grade, because although tobogganing is a lot of fun, the risk of injury should not be underestimated. Well-prepared and secured tracks are an essential factor in significantly reducing the risk of injury. The second test criterion was the service facilities around tobogganing, such as rental, ascent systems, comfort, etc., which made up 30% of the evaluation.
It is very pleasing that the South Tyrolean toboggan runs generally performed well, with three places among the Top 10. But one can be particularly proud that the test winner also comes from South Tyrol. The Rodelbahn am Rosskopf in Sterzing was able to prevail against the international competition and win the trophy for the best toboggan run in the ADAC test 2011!
The longest toboggan run in Italy promises excellent tobogganing fun and keeps this promise too: almost 10 km long, up to 32% gradient, in between also short flat sections, a lot of variety and excellent safety precautions leave nothing to be desired. The testers found practically no points of criticism, only the signage of the toboggan rental could be clearer. Otherwise, the testers are full of praise, especially the safety criteria were rated very positively: Danger spots are well secured and marked with warning signs, the track is consistently excellently prepared and open only for sledders. The short distances from the parking lot to the valley station and the comfortable mountain ride with the modern Rosskopf cable car were also highlighted positively.
Two other South Tyrolean toboggan runs also made it into the Top 10: The Reinswalder Wiesn in the Sarntal and the Epircher Laner Alm in Obereggen rank at places 6 and 7. So, plan a hearty tobogganing session on your next winter holiday in South Tyrol!
