Holiday idyll at the entrance to the Puster Valley in South Tyrol

Rio di Pusteria / Mühlbach

Rio di Pusteria, in German Mühlbach, is located peacefully at 770 meters above sea level, right at the entrance to the Puster Valley. Here you can truly take it easy, as the village center of Rio di Pusteria / Mühlbach has been largely traffic-free for some time. Romantic walks through the historic center and cozy evenings on the café terrace are now possible. A city center without flowing traffic is truly something special, and some tourists may need some time to get used to the newly found tranquility. Once well-rested, you have the agony of choice: both the Puster Valley and the Eisack Valley are just a stone's throw away. Both holiday regions are known for their numerous leisure and sports activities as well as their impressive natural scenery. If you want to wander in the historical footsteps of the cozy community, a visit to the Rio di Pusteria / Mühlbacher Klause is highly recommended. Rio di Pusteria / Mühlbach was a strategically important traffic junction and transit point in the past, as evidenced by the imposing fortress, which once served to protect the national border. The building also served as a customs station. The Mühlbacher Klause can be visited on certain days of the week as part of guided tours. Sometimes knight's games are also held here - they are especially popular with little adventurers. Rio di Pusteria /Mühlbach not only has a lot to offer itself, but also serves as a perfect starting point for excursions and city trips. The popular South Tyrolean city of Brixen is only 10 km away, and the cozy Bruneck is just under 25 km away.

Kneipp cure in summer

In Rio di Pusteria / Mühlbach, vacationers can not only enjoy plenty of fresh air and new impressions, but also do something for their health. The idyllic mountain village of Meransen is located on a high plateau above Rio di Pusteria / Mühlbach and can be reached by cable car or via a well-developed panoramic road. Sports enthusiasts can also "hike" to Meransen, the village is about 7 km from Rio di Pusteria / Mühlbach. Once you arrive, you can experience the healing and beneficial powers of water. Cold and clear, it flows along the Almen-Kneippweg in the Altfasstal near Meransen. 4 different Kneipp stations invite you to refresh your body and strengthen your immune system.

Skiing pleasure in winter

As the sunny autumn days come to an end and the first cold weeks approach, the magical white is not far away either. As soon as the first snowflakes fall, Rio di Pusteria / Mühlbach and its surroundings turn into one big ski area. Tip: Take the cable car from Rio di Pusteria / Mühlbach up to Meransen and just ski away. The nearby ski region Gitschberg Jochtal is particularly popular with winter sports enthusiasts. Between 1400 and 2500 meters above sea level, there is a beautiful ski area that opens its doors from December to April. Whether skiing or snowboarding - 21 km of slopes are ready and waiting to be conquered. A visit to a rustic hut is a must, as well as unforgettable après-ski parties. For inexperienced skiers and beginners, there is also a ski school on site, where you can learn the most important techniques from scratch.
