Right on the Brenner border, less than 10 km north of Sterzing, is Colle Isarco. Gossensass is the northernmost holiday region in Italy and has been a resting place on the way over the Brenner Pass since ancient times.

The name of this popular holiday destination probably comes from "Gotzen," which means miners, and "Sass," the residence.
