Maranza

The popular holiday resort Maranza / Meransen is located at the entrance of the Puster Valley at an altitude of around 1,400 m on a sunny plateau above Mühlbach. Nature lovers feel simply comfortable in this relaxing holiday area, wellness vacationers as well as active athletes. Especially worth seeing in Maranza / Meransen is the Church of St. Jakob, a beautiful Tyrolean Rococo building with a magnificent high altar. Also worth visiting are Rodeneck Castle, Mühlbacher Klause, the so-called "Jungfrauenrast" or the mighty mansions in the surrounding area.

Maranza's local mountain is the 2,500 m high Gitschberg, in summer a wonderful hiking area with a fantastic all-round panorama of the Zillertal, Ötztal and Stubai Alps and the Dolomites. The terrain is also ideal for mountain bikers, with routes of all levels of difficulty. Nordic walking and fitness are further offerings for an active holiday, as well as tennis, climbing and paragliding.

Special attention is given to families in Maranza / Meransen: in addition to family-friendly hotels and great children's playgrounds, there are also a number of special children's programs from children's climbing courses to carriage rides and the popular "Bee Stories" and "Milk Stories" that familiarize children with life on the farm.

Winter in Maranza

In winter, Gitschberg becomes one of the most beautiful and snow-sure ski areas in South Tyrol. Magnificent, well-groomed slopes offer skiers and snowboarders a holiday full of unclouded winter joys. The perfect infrastructure naturally includes the most modern ski lifts and a fun park. The 360° viewing platform at the mountain station under the summit cross offers a unique view: 500 peaks can be seen all around, from the three-thousanders of the main Alpine ridge to far into the Dolomites!

Cross-country skiers will find almost 40 km of wonderful and varied trails in the Maranza holiday region. Several toboggan runs guarantee fun for young and old, winter hiking, snowshoeing, ski tours, and night torchlight hikes are also part of the winter activity offering. Tired athletes can relax in the new indoor pool "Alpinpool Gitschberg Jochtal" with adventure and whirlpool and a modern wellness and sauna area.

For a truly unforgettable and "secret" vacation in Maranza, here are some exclusive tips that are not commonly known:

  1. Private access to a secluded waterfall: Ask the locals about the "hidden waterfall" near Maranza / Meransen. There are often small, little-known paths that lead to breathtaking natural beauties.
  2. Nighttime wildlife observation: Arrange a nighttime wildlife observation with a local nature guide. The nocturnal experience in the wilderness is something very special and offers the chance to see alpine animals in their natural habitat.

  3. Visit to an old mill: In the vicinity of Maranza / Meransen, there are historical mills that are no longer in operation and are rarely visited by tourists. Some are only accessible on foot and offer insights into traditional ways of life.

  4. Private wine tasting in a historic cellar: Some older houses in Maranza / Meransen have historic wine cellars. Some wine lovers offer private tastings that are an intimate and unique experience.

  5. Participation in a local village festival: Inquire about small, local festivals or events that are not widely advertised. Such events offer authentic insights into the culture and community of Maranza / Meransen.

  6. Early morning yoga session with mountain views: Some yoga teachers in Maranza / Meransen offer private sessions in extraordinary locations, for example, on a remote meadow with a view of the mountains at sunrise.

  7. Artisanal cheese tasting on a remote farm: Some farms in the region still produce cheese traditionally. A private tour and tasting at one of these farms is a rare and special experience.

These activities are designed to take you off the beaten path and offer you unique experiences that immerse you deeply in the culture and nature of Maranza / Meransen.
