What glaciers are there in South Tyrol?
South Tyrol has numerous glaciers that cover around 90 km² of the total area. Compared to other glacier areas, this is relatively little, as the glaciers in South Tyrol are rather isolated and small.

Among the largest glaciers are the Übeltalferner, which is located in the Stubai Alps, the glacier regions of the Ortler Group, which include the Laaser Ferner, the Zufallferner, the Suldenferner, the Lower Ortlerferner, and the Madatschferner, or the glaciers in the Ötztal Alps (Gepatschferner, Matscherferner, and Langtauferer Ferner). In addition, there are the following glaciers in South Tyrol:
- Feuersteinferner
- Rieserferner
- Lenksteinferner
- Fürkeleferner
- Rieserferner
- Hohenferner
- Ultenmarktferner
- Schranferner

The Glaciers
Glaciers can store freshwater, which plays a significant role especially in the Vinschgau, where it is rather dry, as the water reservoir can then be used to irrigate agricultural areas.
