When is Törggele season in South Tyrol?
Törggelen is also referred to as the 'fifth season' in South Tyrol and it begins when the grape harvest is complete and the vine leaves glow golden yellow.
Where wine and chestnuts grow, the farm and bush taverns open from October to the end of November and the hosts serve traditional South Tyrolean specialties such as cured meat, dumplings, Schlutzkrapfen, and of course roasted chestnuts. Young wine and grape must, which is also called 'Siaße', are served along with these. The term Törggelen goes back to the wooden wine press, the 'Torggl'.
