Hike to Roèn (2116 m)

The Roèn, which rises steeply to the west above Tramin, is the highest and at the same time most rewarding viewpoint mountain of the entire Mendola Ridge.

The border between South Tyrol and Trentino runs directly at the Mendel Pass, which represents a linguistic and geographical divide and offers a wonderful starting point for excursions into the neighboring forests and to the peaks of Roen and Penegal. The convenient journey is made with the Mendel Funicular, which covers 854 meters in altitude over a distance of 2,370 meters from St. Anton in Kaltern in just a few minutes and takes us directly to the pass.

From the mountain station of the Mendel Funicular, we tackle the southern path No. 500. Our path first leads us past the Gentian Hut (1,399 m above sea level) before we reach the Halfway Hut (1,585 m above sea level), where there is a perfect opportunity for a first break.

Our path continues along the way No. 500 until we reach the Romeno Alm (Malga di Romeno), where there is also a small chapel. Shortly thereafter, we reach the highlight of our tour, the summit of Roen at 2,116 meters above sea level, from where we can enjoy a breathtaking view over the Oltradige and the surrounding mountains to the majestic Dolomites. The return journey is made via the same route back to the mountain station of the Mendel Funicular. Surefootedness is recommended for this hike!
