This hike demands a certain stamina from young active vacationers, but they are rewarded with a beautiful South Tyrolean legend. The starting point for the legend hike is the Karerpass. Below the Latemar, the path is easy until you reach the Mitterleger. There, a turnoff already indicates the way to the legendary Karersee.
According to legend, a beautiful water nymph lived here, who always showed herself on a sandbank in the middle of the lake. To win her over, a sorcerer created a huge rainbow. However, the water nymph did not reciprocate the sorcerer's feelings, and out of anger, he then destroyed his creation. The Karersee supposedly still reflects the fragments of the rainbow today.
