A holiday region for every taste!

Holiday in Valle Isarco

Pass the Brenner, and you have reached your destination! There, where the Eisack Valley (Isarco Valley) opens into a wide basin, lies the city of Sterzing, which has been named one of the most beautiful cities in South Tyrol. The medieval Fuggerstadt attracts visitors from near and far to visit the magnificent late Gothic parish church and the charming old town. Just as the cultural offerings are cultivated here, so is the cuisine: In Sterzing, you will find tasty Tyrolean cuisine as well as elegant Italian pizzerias.

Not far away is the famous pilgrimage site of Maria Trens, whose name is known far beyond the borders of South Tyrol and attracts numerous people every year. To the left and right of Sterzing, the side valleys of Ridnaun-Ratschings and the Pfitsch Valley branch off. Do not miss the opportunity to visit the mining museum in Ridnaun Valley, hike across narrow footbridges and bridges through the impressive Gilfenklamm, and marvel at the incomparable mountain panorama in the Pfitscher Hochtal!

Everyone traveling south knows the mighty Franzensfeste, a huge stronghold from the time of the Danube monarchy. There, where the Puster Valley also branches off, the valley opens up again, and the charming village of Vahrn, where wine grows on sunny slopes, welcomes you with its Mediterranean climate. The nearby Brixen, the largest city in this region, was an important episcopal see until the 20th century. Take a stroll through the old town and marvel at the impressive cathedral. But those who do not take enough time for this will surely regret it: In Brixen, you can stroll through illuminated alleys, across the cathedral square, and under the medieval arcades, protected from rain and snow. The ancient vaults house numerous shops and boutiques, seamlessly complemented by inviting inns and elegant wine bars.

You will be spoiled with an unforgettable view of the Geisler group in Feldthurns. But the mountains are not the only sight to see: The Renaissance castle from the 16th century, once the summer residence of the bishops and now housing the local history museum, is definitely worth a visit. And not far from Feldthurns, the town of Klausen offers a selection of local crafts and typical specialties, modern fashion, and leather goods, all just a few steps away from each other.

Summer Holiday

The large and small towns of Valle Isarco are popular starting points for hikes and mountain tours in the South Tyrolean Alps. Here, you can conquer proud peaks and enjoy the hospitable hospitality on an alpine pasture after a shorter hike.

You will experience a special natural experience when you walk the Tiroler Höhenweg: This trail leads from the North Tyrolean Zillertal across the Italian-Austrian border along mighty rock formations and picturesque Alps to the spa town of Merano.

But the Keschtnweg is also popular, starting in Vahrn and winding its way through vineyards, chestnut groves, and romantic forests to Bozen.

The high plateau above Rodeneck unfolds its beauty and is an ideal destination for family hikes. Along the paths on the alpine pasture, hikers can admire the impressive flora and fauna. Managed mountain inns invite you to take a leisurely break along the way.

An adventurous pleasure hike awaits you on the Villanderer Alm, one of the largest high alpine pastures in Europe, which impresses with a breathtaking panorama. The hiking trails are comfortable and lead through lush alpine meadows, past lakes, moors, and grassy mountain peaks, lined with numerous alpine huts.

But Valle Isarco is also extremely popular with cyclists and mountain bikers, as there are not only mountain bike trails and challenging mountain roads like the Jaufen Pass, but also flat paths that lead quietly through the beautiful landscape from place to place. Therefore, we present one of the most charming cycle paths in South Tyrol: the Valle Isarco cycle path. This almost 100 km long route leads from the Brenner Pass through picturesque towns like Sterzing, Brixen, and Klausen to the regional capital of Bozen. Particularly noteworthy is the flexibility with which you can explore this cycle path: Whether in one day, spread over two to three days, or in individual stages – design your tour according to your wishes.

Water sports enthusiasts will also get their money's worth here: While you may not stay dry while rafting on the Eisack, you will be rewarded with an unforgettable adventure. And at the Acquarena in Brixen, you will feel like the day is too short.

Winter Vacation

When the snow transforms the valley into a white paradise landscape, you will wonder: Where can winter be more beautiful? No matter where you spend your vacation: A ski area is waiting right nearby! In the immediate vicinity of Brixen alone, you will find three ski areas to choose from: The Jochtal ski area near Vals, where snowboarders are also offered a lot, the Plose ski area directly in Brixen with its 43 kilometers of slopes, and the Gitschberg ski area near Meransen, where steep descents and gently sloping slopes offer skiing fun for everyone.

Right near Sterzing is the gondola lift to Rosskopf. From there, you can also reach the Ladurns ski area, which is located in the Pflersch Valley just a few minutes' drive from Gossensaß. And in Ratschings, there is also the large Ratschings-Jaufen ski area, where 8 lifts and 17 slopes guarantee variety on every descent.

So enjoy successful turns in the magnificent powder snow, take a break in a mountain hut, and celebrate with your friends until late at night! Of course, in the Valle Isarco, you will also find everything else your winter sports heart desires: toboggan runs through snowy winter forests, dozens of well-prepared cross-country ski trails, frozen lakes, artificial ice rinks, enchanting snowshoe hikes, and fantastic ski tours!

For years, I have been drawn to Törggelen in South Tyrol every autumn. This tradition has a special magic for me that I simply cannot do without. The combination of the autumn landscape, the convivial get-together, and the culinary enjoyment makes every visit a highlight!
