The starting point of this hike is Mareit in the Ridnaun Valley, from where you initially walk to the parish church and there reach the hiking trail "Schloss Wolfsthurn Forest and Water". Through an avenue, you reach the castle pond and over the trail no. 9, which also passes an old wolf pit, you get to the circular trail Mareit. Next to the stream, you hike about 1.5 kilometers further up the valley to the Achenrain Gorge. Subsequently, hikers reach a gravel road up to the so-called Gratznhäusl, from there the path continues to the late Gothic pilgrimage and miner's church St. Magdalena, which was first mentioned in the year 1273.
Cultural hiking: From Mareit to Maiern
Via trail no. 7A you finally reach the village of Ridnaun, which also has a very beautiful parish church. Via the main street, hikers reach the Upper Ore Road, on which ore was transported with horse-drawn carriages in the past. At the end of the valley, where the trail also ends, interested parties can also visit the mining world of Ridnaun-Schneeberg, where silver, lead, and zinc were once mined. The mine was the highest in the Alps, with its facilities reaching up to an altitude of 2700 meters. During its heyday, about 1000 miners worked here in approximately 70 tunnels. During a tour, which lasts about 1.5 hours, you get an insight into three areas of the mine, including a show tunnel. From the end point of the hike in Maiern, you then take the bus line 321 back to Mareit.
