The wein.weg in Kaltern makes use of two existing hiking trails and leads in a figure-eight loop to Lake Kaltern and through the vineyards around Kaltern. The midpoint or intersection of the trail is located right at the Weinhaus on the market square of Kaltern.

The wein.weg is an experience in every season, even in the cold season when a truly unique atmosphere hangs over the vineyards. In spring, you can enjoy the awakening of nature and watch the vines grow. In summer, the fragrant grapes ripen in the warm sun. The hike is particularly charming during the harvest time and in autumn, when the vine leaves change color and nature shines in a colorful display once again.
Those who hike along the wein.weg quickly and vividly realize how many different "riegels" (terraces) there are here in Kaltern. The riegels have evocative names such as "Prunar," "Puntara," "Salt," "Vial," "Plantaditsch," or "Palurisch." Mostly of Rhaeto-Romanic origin, these riegel names are of almost onomatopoeic poetry and expressiveness. To make this variety of special locations clear to the hikers, white limestone thresholds are embedded in the ground, on which the riegel names are written in metal with a red porphyry dot.

As an orientation aid in the terrain, there is the wein.wegweiser with an overview map showing the exact route of the wein.weg. The wein.wegweiser also provides many interesting information about the soil, climate, and the cultivated grape varieties. There are rest areas with tables and seating at four points along the trail, where you can enjoy the panorama of the vineyards and the surrounding mountains. In addition, square bronze plates with engraved texts are attached to the tables. In spring and summer, guided hikes with wine tasting are also offered.
The entire hike takes about 2.5 hours and is not associated with any difficulties. Naturally, there are several opportunities for refreshments along the way, as wine is not only meant to be admired, but also enjoyed.
